Burton Gordon
Malkiel (born August 28, 1932) is an American economist and writer, most
famous for his classic finance book A Random Walk Down Wall Street (now
in its 9th edition, 2007). He is a professor of economics at Princeton
University and chairman of the economics department. He served as a
member of the Council of Economic Advisers (1975-1977), president of the
American Finance Association (1978), and dean of the Yale School of
Management (1981-1988).

The Vanguard Group, Inc., and President of the Bogle Financial Markets
Research Center. He created Vanguard in 1974 and served as Chairman and

had been associated with a predecessor company since 1951, immediately
following his graduation from Princeton University, magna cum laude in
